New Orleans-based Tulane University added Mary Mulcahey, MD, to direct the women's sports medicine program at the Tulane Institute for Sports Medicine, New Orleans City Business reports.
Here's what you should know.
1. Dr. Mulcahey is joining Tulane after a tenure at Philadelphia-based Drexel University.
2. She specializes in a variety of orthopedic conditions including back injuries, foot and ankle injuries and the female athlete triad.
3. Dr. Mulcahey earned her medical degree from the University of Rochester (N.Y.) School of Medicine and Dentistry. She completed an internship, residency and fellowship at Providence, R.I.-based Brown University. She completed an additional fellowship at San Diego Arthroscopy & Sports Medicine.

During her first week in New Orleans, you might think the director of the new Women's Sports Medicine Program at Tulane would cruise the Quarter, sample some crawfish and beignets, and maybe even take her first carriage ride.
Instead, Dr. Mary Mulcahey hosted outreach visits at four of the all-girls' high schools, attended a Sacred Heart Booster Club Meeting, gave two hands-on lectures during Sacred Heart anatomy classes, spoke to a group of dancers at Live Oak Dance Studio about injury prevention, and covered a rugby game for Brother Martin. She did try crawfish at least - at a school fundraiser where mingled to meet parents, coaches, and the principal.
